Nathan BergStudent at Des Moines Central Campus Aviation Technologies · Van Meter , United States
I am studying Aviation Technologies through Des Moines Central Campus in the Aviation Engineering Technologies Department, headed by Mr. Jerome Bradley and taught by Mr. Ric Graves. This course is only one out of four thousand school districts in the Midwest that enables high-school students to obtain high-school and college credit. When the partaking students have either become a senior or have completed 2 years of the class, the students will have the chance to go to the Iowa National Guard 132nd fighter wing and partake in an 15 week internship. Giving young adults like myself the unprecedented opportunity to work on the engines and the active service Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon one on one with the Guardsmen. While at the Iowa National Guard the students will experience all aspects of the day to day operations of the 132nd. Everything from doing F.O.D. walks out on the taxiway holding bay 'hotspot' to running up the F-16C's engine up to full military power in the fully functioning engine maintenance house. Upon graduation, not only will the graduating class be the only ones in the nation to have interned at fully functional air base. The students will also be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration in the areas they studied while enrolled in the course for all three years.
I plan to be a Captain for United Parcel Service flying the long haul routes in the Boeing 747-400 Extended Range Freighter. I have been in the Aviation sector for only a year but I already do know, that is my found career and preferred profession.
