Yes ! Oil pressure is the first indication you have to check for, as soon as the engine is started !

Because if oil quantity is much low than the manual described or due some reason oil does not exist the engine will be ceased.

low oil pressure could also be caused by a leak in the oil circuit. trying to run an engine with low oil level or low oil pressure will give you 95% chances to break it.
